Thanksgiving Socia Media Facts – Infographic

So long, spuds. Catch ya later, yams. Go forth and multiply, green beans. The most popular side dish at Thanksgiving, as rated by the number of mentions on Twitter and Facebook in recent months, is a turkey’s best friend: stuffing.

Out of more than 150,000 tweets and updates about “Thanksgiving dinner” collected by the company Viralheat, the starchy mixture was mentioned in more than 38,000. That’s a full 15,000 mentions ahead of its nearest rival, mashed potatoes. Yams get the bronze medal.

Green beans are an also-ran in mentions, but they can at least boast of their popularity on Pinterest — as the most-pinned side dish this year. On the dessert front, pumpkin pie is the winner, edging out apple pie — but not by much.

The Realities Of Running A Food Truck – Infographic

Oh food trucks, since when did you start popping up on every corner of every town across America? I know you’re delicious, I know you’re convenient, but sometimes I like my air conditioning.

Mobile eateries started popping up in my hometown, Austin, five or six years ago. Since then there has been an explosion and we now boast almost 1300 of them. Yeah, holly crap. Even in my current city of San marcos, with a population of barely 50,000, we have TWO food trailer parks. Probably over 30 vendors in the city as well. Food trucks seem like they have over-saturated the market, but are they here to stay?

I believe a lot of them will move to brick-and-mortar locations once a big following has been garnered. If other trucks take their place, I do not know. Also, as the economy picks up, many of these empty parking lots and eateries are going to be sold to developers. In my opinion a good economy is not good for our mobile snack shacks. [Via]

1. Free People

The fashion brand, owned by Urban Outfitters, recently attached individualized hashtag cards to its jeans. On the cards, customers were encouraged to take a picture of themselves in the jeans, post the photo on Instagram, and tag it with a specific hashtag. The result: Photos of fabulous jeans circulating not only on Free People’s feed, but their followers’ too. From there, moderators at Free People handpicked photos to publish on its website, turning its consumers into models and engaging with its community in a fun, impactful way.

2. Comodo

A Latin American restaurant in Soho, New York, Comodo recently created an “Instagram menu” by asking patrons to snap photos of their meals through Instagram and hashtag them #comodomenu. Now, customers (and curious potential customers) are able to search the hashtag to see photos of the restaurant’s offerings, creating a more intimate and engaging dining experience. And whetting a few appetites, too.

3. Tiffany & Co

Earlier this year, Tiffany launched an Instagram campaign that offered followers three new Instagram filters: Tiffany blue, peach, and black and white. (Who doesn’t want more filters?) Followers were also encouraged to tag photos of themselves and their significant others #TrueLovePictures, which Tiffany featured a selection of on its True Love in Pictures website. The campaign was a great way for Tiffany to provide its followers with relevant, brand-related content, while also inviting them to take part in the experience.

4. Fashion’s Night Out

This year, Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out launched an Instagram campaign around its iconic event, Fashion’s Night Out LIVE, that invited people taking part to tag their photos #FNO for the chance to have them published on the event’s microsite and Tumblr. The campaign provided Fashion’s Night Out with great user-generated content, plus a unique opportunity to connect with fashionistas taking part in the event in-person and virtually.

5. Red Bull

Recently, Red Bull held an Instagram contest that gave away two tickets to this year’s Red Bull King of the Rock Finals basketball tournament in San Francisco. To enter, followers had to take a picture of themselves with a basketball in unexpected, surprising locations and tag their photos #TakeMeToTheRock. The contest not only got followers excited, but also allowed Red Bull to further its reach within the sports community in a natural, but fun, way.

As you begin to create or amplify your presence on Instagram, focus on creating compelling day-to-day content. As with all of your social media platforms, make sure you’re posting often and with content that speaks to your audience.

And if you’re looking to launch a campaign, get creative! The more inspiring it is, the more your target audience will want to engage with your brand. And don’t forget to incorporate what you’re doing on Instagram across your other social media platforms so your community knows where to find you — and the types of fun content they can expect to find once they get there.

The Rise Of Mobile Health Management Tools, Smartphones: Smarter Healthcare – Infographic

Extreme smartphone use can certainly lead to strained eyes and stiff necks. That’s the bad news. The good news? The mobile device you just can’t live without can also help facilitate better health in new, more convenient ways than ever before.

How? The rise of mobile health apps and other tools. There are currently about 40,000 mobile health apps available for tablets and smartphones, and over 500 health projects worldwide that have a mobile emphasis.

That’s according to the online health care education portal AlliedHealthWorld.com, which pulled information from a variety of sources around the web to show just how much of a positive impact smartphones can have on our well-being.

In fact, if you use exercise apps such as Runkeeper, access health records electronically or participate in wellness gamification programs, you may already be experiencing mobile’s health benefits without even realizing it. One analysis indicates that the number of people who downloaded a mobile health app in 2012 will nearly double to 247 million from last year. What can those apps do? Diet, exercise, sleep and blood pressure are just a few of the many areas covered.

All that usage is leading to mainstream recognition, too. The United States Food and Drug Administration last year began paving the way for mobile apps that ensure health claims pass an approval process before becoming available to the consumer market.
